Shazam co-founder Dhiraj Mukherjee has backed employee volunteering tool onHand in its $4m (£3.2m) pre-Series A funding round.
Dubbed the “Uber for volunteering” by IBM, onHand is an app that connects employees with sustainability volunteering opportunities, such as youth mentoring and crisis response, and tracks any savings of CO2e.
Mukherjee said: “At a time when companies are increasingly putting ESG and impact at the centre of their business to address social, environmental, and wellbeing needs, onHand has delivered a solution with makes it super simple to do good while doing well.”
Users of the volunteering app include Domestic & General, Channel 4, and Trainline. Charities that are signed up to onHand include The Red Cross, RNIB, Guide Dogs, Water Aid, and the British Heart Foundation.
The onHand pre-Series A funding was led by 24Haymarket, with further contributions coming from Northstar Ventures and UKRI.
“This innovative platform matches forward-thinking employees and employers wanting to volunteer with local opportunities to do so, so the work can start benefitting their local communities immediately,” said George MacGinnis, Healthy Ageing Challenge director at UKRI.
Sanjay Lobo founded onHand in 2019, after previously working for lastminute.com and Vistaprint. Lobo was awarded an MBE in 2022 for onHand’s work during Covid.
